Touristic attractions of Buzau

Only 100km away from Bucharest and so many touristic attractions. Some of them are unique in this country and others are unique even in the world.

Did you know that here you can visualise the surface of the Moon? Well, yes, indeed...if you go and vist the Muddy Vulcanoes, the experts say that the landscape there is exactly the same as on the Moon ( selenary aspect). Besides the fact that they are unique in Europe, you may have the feeling that you've just landed on the Moon, Armstrong...

Buzau county is famous for the art of stone sculpturing, due to the fact that it has the unique 2 open-air stone-sculpture exhibitions: one in Magura and the other on the top of one hill in Naeni. Moreover, during your trip, please notice the stone-crosses that guard the houses and the vineyards.

Speaking of wine, you shouldn't miss tasting the wines of Buzau: red or white, your mouth will fill up with the heat of white-stone of Pietroasele and with the aromas of pure nature ( forest, hay, linden or smoked plums). Tamaioasa de Pietroasele won several Gold Medals in the International Wine Contests.
Unique traditional products, such as Babic, Plescoi sausages, "water" onion, Buzau pretzels and plum brandy will satisfay your all 5 senses (and probably open your 6th).

Spirituality is everywhere present, the numerous churches and monasteries spread all around Buzau, their legends and miraculous paintings attracting visitors. When entering the teritory of the Geopark "Tinutul Buzaului", you should visit the caves of Alunis, Bozioru and Nucu, a.k.a "The Romanian Holy Mountain".

Traditional villages, with old houses still untouched by the contemporary, simple villagers, pure nature and spectacular landscape, this is what you should expect from Buzau.


In case you want to relax your body and pamper your self with the salty waters of Sarata Monteoru, do not hesitate to visit this place and spend your days with special cures or wandering through the beautiful forest. The medical experts say that the air from Sarata Monteoru is sedative, this is why the tourists sleep there very well and rejuvanate easier after a long effort.
